Things To Know Before You Go ~ Important Travel News

Ensure all of your liquids or gels are in 3 OUNCE or smaller containers.  More than 3 ounces permitted in checked baggage.

Place those containers in a 1 QUART-SIZED, clear plastic, zip-top bag.

Place 1  BAG per traveler in the security bin for screening

  • Prescription/non-prescription drugs do not need to be in the original bottle unless it is liquid or gel, then 3 oz. or less in your zip lock bag.
  • Photo ID or passport required to board all planes.  Carry a copy of your passport in separate area in case it gets lost.  For domestic flights, children under 16 years don't need an ID.
  • Carry-on luggage size is 14"x22"x9"
  • Checked luggage: one bag at 40-50lbs; weight varies depending on the airline.
  • Travel protection insurance is highly recommended for weather delays or medical cancellations. Ask your travel agent for details.
  • Hotel Park & Fly options are available for the night before you travel. Ask your travel agent for details.
  • In the event of bad weather, check flightstats.com; by airport or flight number.
  • Airline check-in time:  Domestic 90 - 120 minutes; International 2 -3 hours; Peak season travel - arrive earlier.
  • Make sure you contact your credit card company before you travel to let them know where you will be going and for how long.  You don't want your travel purchases to be declined.

Luggage Requirements

The airlines are charging baggage fees between $25-$35 for the first checked baggage and $35-$45 for the second, EACH WAY. The fee increases if the baggage item exceeds the weight limit.  It is best to check the rules for the airline you are using for your travel.

TSA Recognized Baggage Locks

TSA screens every passenger's baggage before it is placed on an airplane. While our technology allows us to electronically screen bags, there are times when we need to physically inspect a piece of luggage. TSA has worked with several companies to develop locks that can be opened by security officers using universal "master" keys so that the locks may not have to be cut. These locks are available at airports and travel stores nationwide. The packaging on the locks indicates whether they can be opened by TSA.
